ABOUT MASSACRE.IO
One hunts. Everyone else runs.
Massacre.io is a free multiplayer horror game that runs in your browser. Up to eight people share a dark village street at night. One of them is the Butcher. Everyone else is a survivor with a torch, a few hiding places, and five minutes until dawn.
How a round works
The Butcher is picked at random and starts blind for fifteen seconds while the survivors scatter. Survivors look for three fuses, carry them to the fuse box by the gate, and run. The Butcher wins by catching more than 60% of them before the sun comes up. A caught survivor isn't out: they come back as one of his minions and help him hunt the rest.
You only see what your torch, the streetlights and the lit windows show you. You hear more than you see: footsteps, doors, a dog that stops barking. The heartbeat in your ears tells you how close he is.
What we care about
- Fair play. The server decides everything. Your browser only sends the keys you press, so there is nothing to hack on your side, and you are never sent the position of a player you couldn't see or hear.
- Free, with no pay to win. There's nothing to buy that helps you win. You unlock masks, torch colours and titles by playing.
- Scary, not gory. There is no blood spray and no gore. The fear comes from the dark, the sound and one sudden mask when you're caught.
- No account needed. Pick a name and play. Your level and unlocks are kept in your own browser.
Bots
When there aren't enough people online, bots fill the empty spots so a round can always start. They are always labelled [BOT] in the player list.
Playing with friends
Press Private Room on the title screen and share the link. The host can change the round length, turn bots on or off, and start early.
